Water Sports are Pickles on a Bun Lanier A. Freeman These life stories are true and extremely disturbing. Viewer discretion is advised. It all started on a day as hot as my body. The victims, Nathan Lanier, Andrew Lanier, Anna Burns, and Jason Hunnewel, did not realize that water sports are as hard as my abs. Nathan Lanier was tubing with me, him on the left, and me on the right. We went over the right side of the wake and hit some double-up waves. He fell off the left side of the tube and held on with only one hand, but I stayed on. We started toward the left and the wake behind Nathan came up so silently, and he was gone, without a sound. Andrew Lanier, trying to wakeboard, had difficulty getting up on the flat water in the back of Pataula Creek. He, scared to death, saw a gator and knew he had to get up. He did get up, and if he didn’t, he wouldn’t be here. Anna Burns, showing her skiing and wakeboarding skills, was skiing and nearly hit a stag just out of the water. It scared everyone, but she narrowly dodged the stag. If not, she too might not be here. Jason Hunnewel, after Andrew’s gator encounter, was determined to stay up. He did stay up, until the boat performed a 180 term before he could get both skis over the wake, we ran past our waves, and it was too late. What happened to Jason is what every skier fears. He did a split, and face planted. This is why water sports are pickles on a bun.
